Here is a very exciting idea I am working on. You can download the powerpoint Paekakariki-Wildplay-idea
Late September and 12 brave souls keen to find out more about being a nature connection Guide, gathered by the sea in Paekakariki.
Over two days they explored with all their senses, shared skills, told stories in a teepee, soaked in wild water hot tub while watching the sunrise, ate too much cake, tried out their new techniques on each other and laughed, cried and learned about themselves, each other, this place and how to guide.
Here is some of what participants had to say:
“The balance [of Liana’s facilitation] was beautiful; humorous, relaxed, aware of the group, organised, GENEROUS, and such valuable personal anecdotes and stories. It’s wonderful to learn from someone who walks the talk”

Sometimes you have a crazy idea that you just have to put into action. Liana’s Parlour of Natural Beauty was just that. Driven by the idea “why does so much nature connection, science communication and conservation have to be so sciency and intellectual? – Why couldn’t it be more sensory, pampering and joyful?” I came up with the Parlour. And then, along with 17 wonderful volunteers, I put it into action as an 8 day experiential installation that looked like a retro beauty parlour taken over by the bush and connected people to nature and wellbeing. It was all run as part of the Common Ground Groundwater-themed Hutt Public Art Festival February 25- March 4 2017.
In a week we pampered almost 500 people and connected with thousands more; people from all walks of life not just those already interested in environmental issues or the arts.
The feedback was fabulous:
I’m pretty inspired by the Sustainability Trust in Wellington who are planning a great new school holiday programme. They have hired me as an advisor and together we are planning some cool wild adventures for kids aged 6-12. It will be based at community garden Innermost Gardens and feature plenty of outside time and adventures in the town belt – all a stone’s throw from the CBD.
